I joined PayPay in March 2022. I am in charge of helping PayPay hire the best engineers from Japan and overseas to work here in Japan.

PayPay is growing at a rapid speed and in order to do so, we need many highly skilled engineers to join us! I am specifically focused on hiring backend engineers, Mobile engineers and security related engineers. However, we are hiring across the whole spectrum of engineering roles. As a team, we are always thinking of new ways to reach out to engineers who could be a good match for PayPay. Even though I have only recently joined PayPay, in this time we have already had global hiring events, tech talks, and are now doing a Referral Matsuri (Employee Referral Festival).

From where & why did you join PayPay?

I joined PayPay in March 2022. Before joining PayPay I worked as an IT recruiter for a few different recruitment companies focused on the Japan market. After working as an agency recruiter for six years, I wanted to be a part of something bigger and feel my contributions impact the success of a company more. My motivation to join PayPay is because I am an avid user of the PayPay app and a big fan of the product. I really liked how PayPay is expanding its services to help improve and make people’s lives more convenient. During the interview process I had the strongest connection with the interviewers at PayPay and joining the company was a very easy decision for me.

Everything that happens at PayPay happens quickly!

During the interview process I remember a number of the interviewers saying that working in PayPay is like a festival. After joining I can really resonate with that statement.

PayPay is growing so quickly and we really do work at speed. In one day there is so much you can experience. Specifically within the recruitment area, there are so many different initiatives we are implementing to attract the best people. Within my first month of working at PayPay, I have already been involved with global hiring events, tech talks, and now the Referral Matsuri. There definitely isn’t a boring day at PayPay, and there is never a day I don’t feel like I am able to contribute. This helps both the company grow, but also me as an individual.

In just one day of work, so much can happen and it is such an engaging environment to be a part of.

I have also been surprised with how valued everyone’s opinion is. If you have an idea, PayPay has a culture where you can comfortably ask your manager and your manager will actively consider implementing your ideas. Because of this, PayPay is a company where you can make a big impact in a short period of time. I feel the growth curve and learning curve at PayPay is much faster than at other companies.

I work for a company / product I am passionate about and I work with people I really like and get along with. Of course, like any job, there are challenges. However, joining PayPay has honestly been the best career move I have made so far. I am looking forward to the future and the impact I will have at PayPay!
