On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, an online event titled “From Mobile App Development to Large Data Processing! Challenges in Salesforce Development Supporting the Acquisition, Review, and CS Functions for Merchants Used by 66 Million PayPay Users,” hosted by TechPlay, will be held.
In the sales activities of PayPay, records of sales activities and merchant reviews are carried out through Salesforce. To support merchants nationwide, sales representatives, review staff, and customer support staff use Salesforce daily in their work. The SFA & CRM department, which is responsible for the development and operation of such an important Salesforce system, is taking on the challenge of development beyond Salesforce standard functions while responding to requests from employees in the field.
This session will introduce two case studies that were realized by fully utilizing all services to meet the highly complex demands from the field using Salesforce technology.
【Case】
- Mobile App Development × Salesforce (Sales Area)
This case introduces the challenges of mobile app development with Salesforce to meet the request from the sales field to make it a more user-friendly smartphone app that offers a visual sense of accomplishment.
Since Salesforce was originally designed for laptops, there was a drawback of being less user-friendly on the standard Salesforce mobile app. Differences in usability and display on laptop screens versus vertical smartphone apps, as well as the requirement to comply with PayPay’s unique branding rules in screen design, were challenging aspects. To address this, we carried out scratch development using LWC (Lightning Web Components) to create dashboards that clearly show sales performance and features like assigning badges when goals are met.
This case discusses the challenges in Salesforce mobile app development and the solutions. Also, the LWC used here is a technology that will become increasingly important as the main method for developing Salesforce screens, even though its utilization has not yet advanced much in Japan. This session will clearly introduce utilization methods that Salesforce engineers should know.
- Large Data Processing × Architecture Adjustment × Salesforce (Marchant Review Area)
In the review operations at PayPay, more than a million data entries are processed per day. This case introduces the technical innovations for efficiently handling vast amounts of data by integrating review operations into Salesforce.
To efficiently process this large volume of data, we built a system linking Salesforce with AWS using a product called Salesforce Connect. Given the need for secure system construction due to the nature of review operations, we have challenged ourselves to connect AWS and Salesforce seamlessly by also using products like Mulesoft and Salesforce Private Connect.
Through these challenges, it became possible to outsource large data processing and improve the efficiency of review operations using Salesforce reports and dashboards. The examples in this part will be helpful not only for Salesforce users but also for engineers who want to explore data processing and architecture without being limited to specific SaaS.
As shown in the two cases above, PayPay is working on Salesforce development using data of a scale that is rare even in Japan. It’s a 90-minute session where you can learn the ingenuity and mindset for solving challenges beyond standard functions.
